Cinnabars are strikingly coloured day-flying moths and this image really shows off the wonderful velvety texture of their wings. Their easily recognised orange and black striped caterpillars can often be found munching on Ragwort, their main food plant. This individual was freshly emerged from its pupa and was still in the process of drying out its wings when I found it.
