Small Copper – A09

Probably my favourite Butterfly, Small Coppers are tiny in stature but large in attitude and character, strutting about on flowers, feeding and displaying their wonderful colours and chasing much larger Butterflies away from their patch. I find them a tricky subject though, as they never occur in huge numbers and are very flighty. This photograph was taken early in the morning, just as the first rays of sun were encouraging it to open its wings. A lovely, understated image with soft, muted tones.
