The Common Hawker (although I prefer the traditional name of Moorland Hawker) is a large Dragonfly which flies throughout Summer and right into Autumn. In fact this elderly and rather worn female was photographed in early November! I had been watching her carefully laying her eggs in the pond margins, before she flew a short distance and perched for this lovely atmospheric Autumnal image.
