Dunnock in early Spring.
Sometimes wrongly referred to as Hedge Sparrows, Dunnocks are not in fact related to Sparrows, but are part of the Accentor family of birds. Outside of breeding season they tend to be shy and solitary, spending their time foraging low down in hedges and scrub. The name derives from the Old English “little brown”, referring to their drab appearance, but in the right light I think their colours and subtle markings are quite beautiful.
